This is the description of the old version of Hl-signal aspect generators. You can find the description of the current version (CV8 > 1) here.

Hl-signals (read H-L) are railway signals that were used in the GDR by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as main and approach signal. During the development of light signals as replacement of outdated mechanical signal, the railway administrations of the Eastern Block countries agreed on a largely unified signal system by combining approach and main signals into a single signal screen. Speed limits were signaled by different arrangement of coloured lights. The Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) named these signals Hl-signal and introduced them in 1958. The introduction of Hl-signals was carried out in the course of new constructed railway control centres. They replaced older mechanical signal and Sv-signals. In contrast to the (former) DB, the DR installed light signals into old railway control centres. Light signals were the most common type prior to the introduction of the Ks-system. Also new constructions of electromechanical and (rarely) mechanical control centres were usually equipped with Hl-signals.

Decoder of the Z1-series (standard and all-in-one classes) are the actual light signal decoder of the Qdecoder. Before using them on the model railway, they need to be configured. In the simplest case this is done with the programming button. However, often an additional programming with configuration variables is required. If signal aspects should be displayed, this programming can get an extensive job.

You can manually configure the decoder yourself, or you acquire a pre-configures Qdecoder-light decoder and save the configuration of the configuration variables.

Not all signal aspects are required in all cases. Hl-signal aspect generators of Qdecoder are available in four varieties for typical use cases. Two or four signals can be connected to one Qdecoder, depending on the required number of function outputs. Currently, there are the following pre-configured decoder in the light signal decoder shop:
